Ya-Ya
Ya-Ya was founded in 1999 and has expanded into one of L.A.'s leading brands. Originally founded as a sportswear collection in the fall of 2002 by Yael Aflalo, it was since shifted to the dedication of the practical art of fashion and the emphasis of flattering the female physique.
Yael Aflalo was born in Los Angeles in 1977. Upon graduating from the University of California at Berkeley, Yael attended the Fashion Institute of Design and Merchandising in Los Angeles for a year where she began to explore and formulate her own ideas on fashion. At the tender age of 20, she began to design her own apparel, piece by piece. Her designs incorporated the use of reconstruction and integrated the unique use of reworked vintage Levi Jeans for her first work. It was not long before her work was noticed and in turn urged by Jon Eshaya, the buyer of Fred Segal, to push forward and create her own entire collection.
In the heart of Los Angeles' fashion district, Ya-Ya's inspiration is grasped from the surrounding active and urban environment. Still an extremely young company, Ya-Ya's compilation of artistic youth strives to the production of only the best quality apparel. Drawing from the use of elegant frabics, flattering cuts, and a focus on wearability, Ya-Ya exudes luxury and quality. The apparel reflects a custom fit in extended lengths and draped or tailored fits, with textures ranging from silk and cashmere to corduroy and canvas. Yael designs her clothing as an expression of human emotion.
